Employment Opportunity – Chief Executive

The South Australian State School Leaders Association (SASSLA) is a member based Association providing legal, industrial and advocacy advice and support to SASSLA members.  Acting as a representative body for our members who are Principals, Preschool Directors, Assistant/Deputy Principals, Senior Leaders, and DECD Officers (with previous substantial experience in a Principal position); SASSLA aims to be their voice, protecting and improving their industrial and legal rights.

Reporting to the Board, we are looking for an experienced Chief Executive who is committed to public education and who has an understanding of the contemporary professional, legal and industrial issues impacting the state education sector and SASSLA members.  You will have demonstrated skills in leading an organisation along with highly effective communication, interpersonal and public relations skills to enable professional interaction with members and stakeholders including political representatives, the Department of Education and Child Development, Presidents of Principal Associations and the media.

The position is offered on a part-time basis of 15 hours per week.  The position will initially be offered as a two year contract, after a six month successful review, with possible extension by mutual agreement of the Board at the pro rata equivalent level of an A-6 Principal, currently $58,313 for 15 hours.

A copy of the Job and Person Specification is available here.  Please email your letter of application and current resume to admin@sassla.asn.au by COB Friday 2 March 2018.

Why SASSLA?

  • Protect your career, reputation and wallet with fully funded legal support. Neither DECD nor the AEU can be relied upon to support you when something happens. Join now and let SASSLA be your safety net!
  • What would happen if a staff member and you both needed representation from the AEU on the same matter? We provide a voice and uncompromising advocacy for school leaders.
  • Membership fees are $28.87 per fortnight and are tax deductible. Far more cost effective than the AEU.
  • We maintain our independence from political parties and DECD to ensure we represent your views.
  • Free conferences and seminars dedicated to school leadership issues throughout the year.
  • Regular e-news, web and social media updates about leaders' work and legal matters affecting education.

Testimonials

SASSLA
I see my SASSLA membership as a type of insurance policy. It’s my support network to fall back on in possible times of crisis. Knowing that I have legal assistance a phone call away and financial assistance with legal costs gives me peace of mind. It’s reassuring to know that I have genuine peer support now and throughout my future career.
