Industrial Matters

SASSLA will provide advocacy for its members in industrial matters in order to protect their rights and entitlements and will seek to represent members' views in the enterprise bargaining process.

SASSLA's stated objects:

  • to improve and maintain the interests of Members in all matters relating to their employment
  • to secure improved rates of pay and conditions of employment for Members
  • to take the necessary steps and actions under any industrial or other legislation, or otherwise, for the purpose of securing satisfactory industrial conditions in respect of the remuneration, hours and conditions of labour, for Members and other conditions in or about their employment
  • to represent Members individually and collectively before relevant authorities, courts and tribunals
  • to represent members individually or collectively in negotiations with any relevant body, government or government department
  • to promote co-operation between the Association and all organisations representing the professional interests of members

Matters pursued to date

  • re-classification of PC04 Deputy Principals to PC05 - to gain entitlements under the award
  • planning for the forthcoming EB process - consultation with Members
  • survey on Step 9 process and its effect on leaders' workload
  • feedback on DECS draft Teacher Recruitment Policy 2011
